Description
Diphenhyramine is an antihistamine that relieves congestion and post-nasal drips. Ammonium Chloride is the expectorant which thins mucus. Terpine Hydrate is an expectorant that helps to thin and loosen mucus in the lungs, making it easier to cough up the mucus. Sodium Citrate is a mucolytic, an agent which breaks down mucus, so that coughing up phlegm is easier. Menthol gives a sensation of coolness.
INDICATIONS:
Indicated for clinical relief from dry cough, whooping cough, smokers cough, chronic cough & post-surgical cough.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Contraindicated in respiratory depression, especially in the presence of cyanosis and excessive bronchial secretion. Should not be given during an attack of bronchial asthma or in heart failure secondary to chronic lung disease. Contraindicated in patients taking mono-amine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping such treatment.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, constipation, nausea or anxiety may occur.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Antidepressants, sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, cimetidine.
PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you have: heart problems, lung disease (e.g., asthma, emphysema), depression, constipation, history of drug dependency, allergies (especially to narcotic pain medications). Use caution performing tasks requiring alertness if this medication causes you to feel drowsy.
